A Heartbreak Blessing
Hey bestie,
I believe in cord-cutting rituals. I have done cord-cutting rituals. I have also discovered an upsetting limitation in the technology: sometimes you cut the cord and wake up the next morning still having feelings.
Rude!
I notice that sometimes contemporary spirituality treats attachment almost like spiritual contamination or bedbugs or something. If you're still thinking about someone, release them! Boom. Feel as if they never existed. If you're still grieving, clear the energy. Cut the cord, burn the letter. spin counter clockwise seven times. Call your power back.
Sometimes those rituals are exactly what we need. But sometimes there isn't an energetic attachment that needs to be banished. Maybe you didn't actually lose your power. Sometimes you simply loved someone, something mattered enormously, and your body and heart haven't yet caught up with the fact that your life has changed.
Grief is not proof that you have failed to let go.
I am learning this in real time.
Ritual cannot make something unimportant to us retroactively. It cannot guarantee that we wake up transformed. What ritual can do is hold our grief when we have all this love with nowhere to go. It can give the body an action when the mind has exhausted itself trying to solve something that cannot be solved.
So this is not a spell for making yourself stop loving, missing or remembering. It is a ritual for honouring the fact that you did. And I think that's more congruent.
If You Need Someone to Hold the Threshold With You
Most of my work happens in circles, but I also work privately with people crossing thresholds that need more than a journal prompt and a green smoothie to get through.
Priestess Sessions can include spiritual counsel, divination and spellwork, grief and heartbreak ritual, ancestor work, Hekatean devotional work, house blessings and cleansings, voice and drumming, or designing a ceremony for something in your life that deserves to be marked. Some of this work can happen online, and for the right circumstances I also make house calls in the Edmonton area.
If you are crossing something and wondering whether I might be the right priestess to walk beside you for part of it, you can simply reply to this email and tell me what's happening, or you can read more here:

A Bath for the Brokenhearted
This is not a cord-cutting spell. We are not trying to convince your body that you never loved. Your love is too pure to be thrown back in your face like that! We are giving the love somewhere sacred to go.
Run yourself a warm bath. Add rose petals, rose tea in a cloth sachet, or another form of rose that is safe for your skin and plumbing. If salt works for your body, add some of that too. No roses? pink and red flower petals are a strong alternative. Got a clear quartz, rose quartz, or rhodonite? Put that on the edge of your bath.
Dim the lights and light a candle somewhere safe. White, red, pink, or silver are good colour correspondences for this spell, depending on exactly your intention.

For this ritual, go to the temple Soundtrack and play Gaia Loves.
Get into the water and, for a while, don't say anything. Let the water hold the weight of your body. Let yourself remember that grief exists because something mattered.
When you are ready, put your hands over your heart and speak:
I honour the love that lived here.
I honour the grief that lives here now.
Neither makes me foolish.
Neither makes me weak.
It was sacred to love.
It was courageous to love.
There is no fault in having loved deeply.
I give my grief somewhere to go.
Into the water.
Into the earth.
Into the arms of the Great Mother, who has held brokenhearted creatures since there were hearts to break.
I call my love home to me.
Not because I regret where I gave it,
but because I am still here,
and I am worthy of its return.
May the love of the earth rise to meet me.
May the love of my friends find me.
May the love of my family, chosen or given, find me.
May the love of the living world find me.
May the love inside me remember its way home.
Stay in the bath. Cry if you cry; like seeks like and the salt water of your tears longs to be with the salt water of the bath. Sing if you sing. Put your hands on your own body and remember that this is the body that carried you through loving someone and is now carrying you through losing them.
Before you drain the bath, take a small cup of the water. Let the rest go down the drain. If what you've put into the bath is safe for the land, take that small cup outside later and return it to the earth. Crossroads are always a friendlier bet than soil when it comes to salt.
Then come home, physically and symbolically, to yourself.
The ritual is what you do. The blessing is what you receive. When you've finished your bath and put on something soft, read this aloud. Read it once tonight. Read it every night for a week. Save it for the morning when you wake up and, for three merciful seconds, forget what happened before remembering again.
The blessing does not ask you to be finished.
A Blessing for the Brokenhearted
Beloved,
May you never be ashamed that love left evidence. May you know that grief is not a stain left behind by loving badly. It is love searching for somewhere new to live.
May the love that has nowhere to go find its way into music, friendship, sleep, food, art, trees, animals, laughter, the hands that reach for you, and the hands with which you learn to hold yourself.
May you eat. May you sleep. May you laugh unexpectedly and not feel guilty when you do. May your body slowly learn what your mind already knows, and may memory become somewhere you can visit without having to live there.
May you keep what was yours: the tenderness, the courage, the vulnerability, the astonishing human capacity to let another person matter. May you never make yourself smaller for having loved deeply.
May what is no longer yours loosen its hands. May the earth beneath you remember your weight and hold you without asking anything in return. May your love come home to you.
And when you cannot imagine what comes next, remember only this:
Love is coming.
You do not have to know from where.
Love is coming.
With love,
Sierra
